Ronald Thomas Grantland “Ronnie”, 81 of Victoria, Texas passed away on December 12, 2024. Ronnie was born in Seadrift, Texas on January 3, 1943, to parents Robert J. and Fannie Mae Grantland. After graduating from Calhoun High School, Ronnie went on to complete a Bachelor of Science degree from Sam Houston State University. In 1965 Ronnie met Barbara Dagg “Bobbie” and they wed in February of 1966 with $70 between the two of them.
Ronnie had a 38-year career with the United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS)/Farm Service Agency. He served in Jackson, Travis, Wharton and Victoria counties. After retirement, Ronnie took a job with the Texas Boll Weevil Eradication Program which he enjoyed immensely.
Ronnie was very active in the San Marcos Jaycees, Wharton Rotary Club, Victoria Little League and the South Texas Farm and Ranch Show in Victoria. When he wasn’t working, he invested his time in his three children being a very supportive tennis dad, dance daddy and a baseball dad/coach. As life slowed down, Ronnie was able to enjoy and support his grandchildren’s activities by rarely missing an event.
Ronnie was predeceased by his parents, brother Mike Grantland and son Wesley Grantland. He is survived by his wife Bobbie, brother Bobby Wayne Grantland, son Travis (Ashley) Grantland and daughter Kristal (Joe) Bassano. Also surviving Ronnie are six grandchildren, Thomas Bassano, Jacob Grantland, Emileigh Burow, Michael Bassano, Carlee Burow and Tanner Grantland.
To honor Ronnie’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Memorial contributions can be made to Crown Hospice of Victoria and Alzheimer’s Association.
