Robert "Bob" Spearing Wood

Robert “Bob” Spearing Wood, 92, of Seadrift, Texas, passed away on October 10th, 2023 surrounded by family and loved ones.

Bob was born on April 1, 1931, to John Fox Wood and May Clara Spearing Wood in Biloxi, Mississippi. 

In 1982, Bob was introduced to Peggy Horton through a mutual friend in Stafford, Texas. Between the two of them, they raised 5 children. Bob’s daughter Lori Hemphill and two sons Steven and John Wood along with Peggy’s two son’s Mark and Mike Horton. They spent their remaining years together happily married and were the love of each other’s life.

After high school and with the guidance of his brother and mentor, Edgar Farrar, Bob started his professional career as a manufacturer representative in the hardware and industrial supply industry. After spending 62 dedicated years working in the field, he retired in 2013 and spent his time enjoying the company of his family. Growing up fishing the Gulf Coast’s Delta Sound in Mississippi, he grew a strong love to fish and an even greater love to teach it. Fishing the Mississippi coast down to Baffin Bay, Texas, as well as some other parts of the country, he passed his knowledge and passion of saltwater fishing not only to his children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren but, many friends and other family members as well.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents John and May Wood, brother Edgar Farrar, wife Peggy Horton Wood, stepsons Mark and Mike Horton and granddaughter Tabitha Wood. He is survived by daughter Lori Hemphill, sons Steven and John Wood. Grandchildren Rebecca Gregory (Keith), Robert Hemphill, Stacey Zysk (Marcus), Mark Stephen II (Christi), Colene Horton, Brian Horton (Jessica) and Stephanie Wood. Great Grandchildren Karley Dickson (Matt), BreAnn Kelley, Caleb, Brennan and Brooklyn Gregory, Brice Hemphill, Mark Stephen III, Meridith and Carter Horton, Nico Zysk, Charollette and Henry Horton. Great Great Grandchildren Kason, Klaire and Mason Dickson. Nephew Ned Farrar and Niece Lucinda Berry as well as numerous other nieces.

A private celebration of life will be held for family members at a future date.
