Our beloved Phillip Richard Soliz (Monk), 65, of Victoria was called to his Heavenly Home on Thursday, February 29, 2024, following a lengthy illness. He was born on November 1, 1958, to the late Savas and Carmen Soliz of Port Lavaca.
Phillip is survived by his wife of 25 yrs., Esther Carrera, stepchildren Victoria Carrera of Fort Worth and Ruben Carrera of Katy, grandchildren Natalia Luevano and Alexander Carrera. His sisters: Isabel Sandoval, Christina (David) Daspit of Kingwood, and Rita (Stephen) Burke of Port Lavaca, Sister-in-Law Norma Soliz; brothers Eddie (Sandy) of Houston, David (Josie) Soliz, Carlos (Norma) Soliz, and Abel (Alice) Soliz all of Port Lavaca. He is leaving behind numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ruben “Bear” Soliz.
Phillip’s passion was preparing his famous bar-b-que for family and friends alike. Phillip loved his Dallas Cowboys and Calhoun Sandcrabs. He had a one of a kind persona - a humorous, kind, and loving personality. He is going to be missed tremendously by all who knew him.
Rosary will be held at 12:15pm on Saturday, March 9th at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church followed by a mass of Christian burial with Father Richard Barfield officiating. Interment will immediately follow at the Port Lavaca Cemetery.
