Linda Moore Hartman passed away peacefully at her home in Victoria, Texas on February 9, 2026 at the age of 79. She was born on October 8, 1946 in Bryan, Texas, where her father, Robert, was attending Texas A&M University after returning from WW II. She was a cherished daughter, sister, wife, aunt, and friend whose warm spirit touched many lives.
Linda was the beloved daughter of Robert and Lavelle (Marshall) Moore of Weimar, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, who taught her to love the Lord and her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Henry F. Hartman, Jr, her brother Larry and his wife Nan (Katy, TX), her nephews Adam Moore (Dallas, TX), Steven Moore (Charlotte, NC), Craig Moore (Amman, Jordan), and Richard Carpenter (Victoria, TX). She is survived by her bonus daughter, Calista Gunyon, 2 granddaughters, 3 great granddaughters, sister-in-law, Shirley McQueen and her husband, James McQueen, and many cousins and extended family who she held so close in her heart.
Linda devoted her life to education. After graduating from Weimar High School in 1965 where she was Prom Queen, she attended Southwest Texas University. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1969 and a Master’s degree in Elementary Education in 1975. She spent her career teaching elementary school in Victoria, concentrating on 3 rd grade. Her classroom was a place of steady encouragement and high expectations and laughter, always keeping each individual student’s needs in mind. She was the kind of teacher that students and families remembered long after the school year ended.
Outside the classroom, Linda found joy in nurturing living things and helping them flourish. A proud Master Gardener, she loved her volunteer time at the Victoria Educational Gardens, planting, weeding, giving students tours of the gardens, and writing articles to be published. She could be counted on for a thoughtful tip, a shared cutting, or the encouragement that a plant would grow with the right attention.
She also was an avid reader for her entire life, beginning at the farm in Weimar, where she would escape to a high tree limb, and sit with her book. She continued her reading habit her entire life, and her home is filled with many books.
In retirement, Linda discovered her love of cats. She adopted a few, and then cared for any lost cat who appeared at her door. They found a friend in both Linda and Henry.
Her friends and family will remember her for her love of God and family, for her kindness, her sweet disposition, her beautiful smile, and her sense of fashion. She was always dressed beautifully.
Linda’s life was defined by devotion – to her husband and her family, her church, her students, and the quiet work of helping others.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, February 20, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Victoria Educational Gardens Pavilion, 283 Bachelor Dr., Victoria. Family and Friends are invited to attend.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Victoria Education Gardens, 333 Bachelor Dr, Victoria, Texas, 77904 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC, 20090-6011.
