Laughton Cecil Collins, 76, passed peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, November 14, 2024. He was born on November 13, 1948, in Jacksonville, Florida, to OC and Hilda Collins.
Cecil was a dedicated servant to his family, his country, his community, and his church. He was the third of ten children and helped his mother care for his younger siblings. He served in and retired from the U.S. Navy, worked for the Postal Service, and taught Industrial Technology before retiring from public education.
Cecil was married to his wife Pamela for 44 years. They had three children: James, Timothy, and Stephen. Cecil instilled within his sons the spirit of service to others and love and faith in Jesus Christ. The family regularly attended church and participated in community activities and outreach programs.
Cecil loved woodworking, and he loved to tinker and collect bits of scrap materials that he believed could be repurposed. He was an avid reader who enjoyed everything from historical non-fiction to sci-fi and epic fantasy. He absorbed trivia and sought out any opportunity to learn some new fact. He had a quick wit and never lost his ability to find a humorous turn of phrase. If someone in his family needed help, it was never in doubt that he would show up.
Cecil is preceded in death by his parents, OC and Hilda, and his siblings, Tommy, Rose, Grace, and Hugh. He is survived by his wife Pamela; his sons James (Gillian), Timothy, and Stephen; his grandchildren Jacob, Josiah, and Jedidiah; his grandnieces and grandnephews, for whom he acted as a grandfather, Drew, Payson, Sarah, and Eli; his siblings Weldon, Lee, Jarrell, Rick, and Debbie; and many extended family who recognized him as an example of a godly person who lived a life of service and support to others.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Parkway Lone Tree, 1802 Lone Tree Rd, Victoria, TX 77901. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sarah’s Warriors, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
