John Calzada, 94, of Victoria, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Nov. 4, 2023 at home. John was born Oct. 26, 1929 in Port Lavaca to the late Constantino and Sara Islas Calzada. John was a lifetime Catholic and retiree from Alcoa aluminum plant in Point Comfort as an electrical maintenance foreman. He graduated from Port Lavaca High School in 1947. John served in the U.S. Air Force from 1947-1951. While in the Air Force he was awarded The Commendation Ribbon, Good conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with Japan Clasp, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and Meritorious United Commendation Emblem. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant in 1951. John is survived by his daughters, Betty Hernandez of Cedar Park, Rose Reagan of Victoria, and Linda (Danny) Cantu of Victoria; son Robert Calzada of Port Lavaca; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Guadalupe Perez Calzada; sons, Johnnie Ray Calzada and David Joseph Calzada; grandson, Joseph Rene Calzada; sons-in-laws, Rudy Hernandez and William Reagan; brothers, Julio and Constantino Jr. Calzada; sisters, Aurora Riley and Connie Ramirez. We wish to thank our family and friends for all the prayers and support in our time of need. We would also like to thank the staff at Caring Senior Services, Veterans Home Care of Texas and Harbor Hospice for the care and love you showed for our precious dad.
