JoAnn Byrn Obituary

JoAnn Byrn, age 76, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, under the
compassionate care of South Texas Hospice: Compassionate Care.

JoAnn was born on August 20, 1949, in Hallettsville, Texas, to Lucille and Louis
Kolos. She spent her life as a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend,
known for her strong work ethic, unwavering loyalty, and deep love for her family.

A hard worker throughout her life, JoAnn was employed by Wal-Mart and Kaspar Wire
Works, where she was respected for her dedication and reliability. More than anything
else, she valued her family, especially her children, whom she fiercely protected and
supported. She was a defender of those she loved, never hesitating to stand up for
family and friends.

JoAnn was a woman of faith and a proud Christian. She found joy in the simple
comforts of life, particularly the companionship of her beloved dog, Phoebe, who
brought her constant comfort and happiness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucille, and Louis Kolos; her sister,
Louise “Sugy” Kolos; and her brother, Victor Kolos.

JoAnn is survived by her loving children: Terence Byrn and spouse Dawn Holland;
Ryan Byrn, his wife Laura, and their children Tristan and Halle; Michael Byrn and his
daughter Alexis; and Mark Hopkins and his husband Wesley Hopkins.
She is also survived by her siblings Katherine Ullah, Louis Kolos, Elizabeth
McGregor, Linda Matlege, and Jean Mitchel and their respective significant others;
her niece Nicole Gilliam and husband Ruben Gilliam; and numerous nieces and
nephews whom she loved dearly.

JoAnn will be remembered for her strength, her devotion to family, and the fierce love
she gave so freely. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy lives on through
the many lives she touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to South Texas
Hospice in JoAnn’s honor, in gratitude for the compassionate care she received.
