Fredrick William Staffeldt, age 79, of Victoria, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, while receiving the best care possible at Dornburg Center of Compassion. Fred was born May 29, 1946, to William and Anna Staffeldt (nee Johnson). Fred graduated from Naperville Community High School in 1964. He then completed 4 years in the US Navy, stationed at Corpus Christi. Fred grew up in Eola, Illinois, and returned to Illinois after he was discharged from the Navy. He worked for McKee door for many years before relocating back to Texas in 1993. Fred always enjoyed an ice-cold beer, and helping people with their household handyman needs. Fred’s favorite pass time was scrapping. He would literally take trash and turn it into treasure with his ability to separate metals and to know when the prices were good. He would fix and repair many things, never by any published standard just by common sense.
He is survived by his daughter Frances Parkison, granddaughter Katherine (Jake) Chismudy, grandson AJ Parkison, and great granddaughter, Riley Chismudy. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Connie Elsman, his brother Richard Staffeldt, his stepson Leo Ward, and his best friend Buddy the dog.
Burial Ceremony will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Hideaway in Victoria Texas over Fred’s birthday weekend.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of South Texas at hospice-vic.org/donate.
