Edward Dale Collier born April 12, 1931, to George Truitt Collier and Nanny Era Wilbanks Collier went to be with his heavenly family June 04, 2024, at 93 years old. He was born in Earth, TX and raised in this general region by his parents. Dad married Mom, his wife of 68 years, on October 25, 1952. The first of their three children, Gary Dale, was born the next year in Lubbock, TX after which dad whisked them away to El Centro, California where he was serving in the Navy. At the conclusion of Naval service, they moved back to Littlefield where baby number two was born, Johanna Lynn. Four years later and settling in Canyon, TX, the third and final baby came to Dale and Gwen, Dianna Beth. While they lived in several locations throughout Texas and a couple in Oklahoma, he was living in Flatonia, TX, when his final hours began, ending the early morning hours of June 04, 2024.
Edward Dale, affectionately known as “Duffy” to the grandkids, loved and lived life to the fullest. He loved operating heavy equipment and that led him to Aransas National Wildlife Refuge where he spent most of his career. He enjoyed watching the Cowboys and Longhorns, fishing, camping, travelling around the U.S. and volunteering after retirement at other wildlife refuges. Birding was another enjoyment he shared with all of us.
Edward Dale is survived by his son Gary (Debbie), daughters Lynn (Pete) and Beth (Fur babies), granddaughters Lisa (Ronnie), Meaghan (Cody) and Mandi (Carl), grandsons Roddy (Amy) and Lance, Great Grandkids Joshua (Demi) and Kayla, Great-Great Grandkids Rhodes and Crawford, one of five brothers Marvin (Nancy), two of six brothers-in-law Gerald and Mike (Linda Lou), sisters-in-law Ann, Debbie, Wanell and Linda Beth. Dad also has many wonderful nieces, nephews, greats and a host of other relatives and friends whom he loved. He was preceded in death by his mother and dad, his wife Gwenda, sister Virginia (Cissy), his brothers Nolan, VH, Gene, Dennis, his sisters-in-law Nita, Toni, Margaret, Bobbie and brothers-in-law Herschel, Norman, Derwood, Kenneth, John.
Services will not be held at this time for Dad. He is being cremated and his ashes will be taken to the cemetery in Cross Cut, Texas (outside of Brownwood, TX) where we will have a graveside service at some time in the future. In lieu of flowers may you consider a contribution to the Cal Farley’s Boy’s Ranch in Amarillo, Texas.
