Daniel “Dan” Paul Martin, 79, passed away December 13, 2023. He was born to Winfred and Helen McGuire Martin on December 23, 1943, in Reno, Nevada; grew up in Grand Junction, CO but had resided in Victoria, Texas for more than 55 years.
Dan was a man of great humility and integrity. Try to praise him for an achievement and he would change the subject to talk about someone whose achievements in that area were to him greater, more worthy of the praise. He was proud of his service in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam war, an air traffic controller, but try to express your amazement considering the qualities of character and intelligence that job required, and he would be quick to tell you about those who were out there in the direction line of fire. There was nothing false in this humility. It was his genuine heart, and saying so was simply a matter of being truthful. The same thing was true in his civilian work life and in his love of family. Praise him for the way he handled these parts of his life, and he would say, “I try not to make things worse.” A Giant loving heart was in that man.
He retired from Dupont, then worked as a Veteran rep for Golden Crescent Work Force Commission and Started LabSaf LLC and did consulting for Evansco Environmental. He loved NASCAR, Classic Cars, Photography and “his girls”. If you asked him what his greatest accomplishment in life was, we would say “my daughter”.
He was preceded in death by the Love of his Life Carole James Martin; brother: Tommy Martin; his parents: Winfred and Helen, and Great Granddaughter Presley Jo Lycka.
He is survived by his children Danielle and Joe Phillips of Highlands, TX and Laurie and Steve Bonner of Good Water, AL
