Charles Allen Sklar Sr., 71, of Placedo, Texas, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, at DeTar Hospital. Charles was born on December 20, 1953 in Houston, Texas. He was adopted by Guthrie and Margie Sklar. He was their long-awaited son!
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Guthrie and Margie Sklar, mother in-law Alice Veselka Loeffler and his sibling Bill Robert Sklar.
Charles is survived by his wife, Nancy, his son, Charles Allen, sister, Debbie Sklar King (David), brothers in-law Walt Gibson (Bonnie), Marc Gibson (Marie), sisters-in-law Glenda Gibson and Shelia Gibson, nieces, Paula McCoy (Daniel), Allyson Justice (Brian), nephews, Jay Gibson, Matt Gibson (Veronica), Brian Gibson (Jessica), great nephews Nathan and Nolan McCoy, great nieces Sophia Gibson and Sarah Gibson, and numerous cousins.
Charles was a graduate of Bloomington High School, class of 1972. Charles attended Riverside Church with his wife and son. Charles started farming at a very young age with his dad. He loved to ride on the tractor and combine to later being the driver of both. He also was a rancher. He also loved to work cattle with Mr. Vivian. He felt like one of the "cowboys" of long ago. Mrs. Vivian rang the triangle to call all the "cowboys" to a feast! After marrying Nancy (1982), he became a Sheriff Deputy in 1987. He was a Sheriff Deputy under three Sheriffs, Dutch Meyer, Michael Ratcliffe, and T. Michael O'Connor. He loved being a Sheriff Deputy. He took so much pride putting on his uniform and all the apparel every single time he went to work. He loved the people that he worked with. He retired in 2012.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at Riverside Church. Pastor Caleb Slavik will be officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are Jeff Janecek, Randy Williams, Walt Gibson, Marc Gibson, Glenda Gibson, David King.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Riverside Church.
