Calvin Earl McCormick

Calvin Earl McCormick passed away at 10:07am on Saturday, August 28, 2021 in Cuero, Texas at Cuero Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at age 85. He was born November 25, 1935 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to the late Floyd Dean McCormick and Dorothy Bernice Sullins McCormick. His father worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation as a toll booth operator and his mother was a homemaker and later in life was a small business owner in Victoria, Texas. The family moved to Wichita, Kansas where he went to school and was involved with various activities including glee club, wrestling and manager of the football team. Upon graduation, Calvin enlisted in the Navy as a radio operator on the U.S.S. Fiske and served 4 years. After his father passed away, His mother relocated to Victoria, Texas. Calvin was married to Shirley Jean Pierce and had three daughters during his 17-year marriage. In 1977, he met the love of his life Cathy Lynne Legg and married her on April 18, 1978. During their 43-year marriage, they lived primarily in Victoria, Texas, but also resided in Schulenburg, Texas for two years. Calvin was a salesman working in the oilfield and for numerous small businesses. He was a member of Parkway Church in Victoria, Texas and attended Sunday School at Northside Baptist Church in Victoria, Texas. Calvin enjoyed listening to Dixieland jazz music, watching Oklahoma Sooner sports, listening to news shows, walking in the mall and having coffee with friends at a local bakery. After his retirement from sales, a lot of time was devoted to his precious dogs, Sassafras T and Coco. His survivors include a wife, Cathy McCormick of Victoria; three daughters, Pamela Michelle Vahalik of Victoria, Sheri Lyn Hooks of Kirkland, Washington and Laura Lavelle LaPlante of Seattle, Washington; a son, Joseph Ray McCormick of San Antonio. Five grandchildren: Robin Haws, Erick Pollard, Andrew Campbell, Ally Vahalik and Rome Vahalik. Four great grandchildren: Lukus Haws, Kylee Haws, Archer Pollard and Sydney Pollard. Calvin will be cremated and his ashes scattered at a later date by his wife and son.
